Transportation from Airport

The Smart Way Commuter Bus is a commuter bus service that links the city of Roanoke with the town of Blacksburg, Va., with numerous stops in between. The cost is $4 one-way (in exact cash only). Please check the bus schedule before traveling (there is no bus service on Sundays).

Roanoke Airport Transportation Service has a service counter inside the airport by baggage claim. They are open 6am to midnight, 7 days a week and provide a shuttle service to Blacksburg for a student rate of $55. If three or more students are on the same ride then the charge is $20 each. Rides can be coordinated at the airport counter, but are recommended to be made ahead of time by calling 1-800-288-1958 or email roanokeats@aim.com

You may also take a taxi to Blacksburg, though reservations need to be made ahead of time by calling the numbers listed. Taxis do not stay parked at the airport for walk up traffic, they will only be there if you have made prior arrangements for travel with them. Taxi fares range between $65 and $85 dollars.

Blacksburg Transit:

Blacksburg Transit (BT) is free for Virginia Tech students who show their Hokie Passport. The BT offers reduced bus service before classes begin around town, between shopping centers, campus and the major apartment complexes. When classes are in session, the BT offers full service with additional routes and more frequent public transportation. Please check the bus schedule online before traveling.
